John Reyes passed away peacefully on December 11, 2025, at his home in Los Alamitos, California. He was born on March 8, 1935, in Flagstaff, Arizona, to Nasario and Maria Reyes.
John graduated from Flagstaff High School in 1954 and immediately enlisted in the United States Navy, serving as a Hospital Corpsman. During his military service, he was stationed at the San Diego Naval Hospital and in Guam, serving honorably until 1958.
Following his military service, John attended Arizona State College in Flagstaff, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1962. After graduation, he moved to Compton, California, with his sister Ignacia and began his professional career in August 1962 at North American Aviation, Inc. in Downey, California. Over the course of his career, he worked as an accountant and supervisor in several financial departments. He retired in February 1993, by which time the company had become Rockwell International.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia; his stepdaughter, Valerie Birdsong; his granddaughter, Serena (Mike) Jimenez; and his great-granddaughter, Lydia Jimenez. He is also survived by his sisters, Polly Holmes and Dolores Barela, as well as many nieces and nephews.
John greatly enjoyed traveling and playing golf with his retired friends. He maintained close friendships with five longtime colleagues from his years at work. Together, they watched the very first Super Bowl, and for many years afterward continued the tradition of gathering annually to watch the game, rotating hosting duties among their homes. Today, one cherished friend remains from that special group.
A celebration of John's life will be held at a later date.
