John W. Rodgers, age 93, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2026, in Alachua, Florida, where he made his home for the past 21 years.
Born in Lancaster, Ohio, John was a proud Korean War veteran who dedicated his professional life to accounting. Over the years, he served as Controller for several companies. During his years in Miami, Florida, he met the love of his life, Mary. Their enduring 54 year marriage was filled with love, family, and faithful service as members of Christ the King Lutheran Church for over 30 years. After moving to Alachua in 2004, he & Mary became active members of Trinity United Methodist Church.
John was a hardworking family man known for his kindness and gentle humor. He found joy in tending his yard, reading, singing in the church choir, watching Westerns, and working on puzzles. He made a special effort to bring a smile to everyone he met.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary; children Kathleen Nickels (Walt), Adam Ferguson (Ilse), and John D. Rodgers (Stephanie); grandchildren Christine, Alex, Sophie, Noah, and Josephine; and devoted nephew Phillip Miller (Suzy).
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ethel Rodgers Matheny; brother, Robert Rodgers; sister, Patricia Miller; and loving niece, Teresa Beth Miller.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on March 14, 2026, in the Chapel at Trinity United Methodist Church, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Association.
