John J. Slattery Jr.

1940 - 2025

John J. Slattery, Jr., formerly of Lakewood, Colorado, passed away on April 23, 2025, in Tampa, Florida, as a result of end-stage kidney disease. Born in Spring Lake, New Jersey, Jack spent his childhood on the Jersey Shore, where he gained a lifelong love of all things maritime, and was happiest in an ocean breeze (preferably while on a J/22 yacht).

A 1960 Electrical Engineering graduate of the University of Notre Dame, Jack also held an M.B.A. from the University of Southern California. Chief among Jack's professional accomplishments are his development of the Advanced Army Aircraft Instrumentation System for the U.S. Army Human Engineering Laboratories, at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. Building on that experience, Jack's career interests expanded to include financial planning for Ampex Computer Products, the Xerox Corporation, and TRW's Information Services Division, all in California, in the 1970s and 1980s.

Jack met and married his wife, Sherry, in Southern California, where Jack was an active amateur sailor and astronomer. A family move to Colorado in 1989 allowed him to continue his work as a financial and engineering analyst and further pursue his interests in travel, stargazing, the arts, and renewable energy. Jack's family and friends will forever treasure his deep intellectual curiosity, joie de vivre, wonderful sense of humor, and love of his family (and of books!).

He is survived by his widow, Sherry; his daughter, Erin (Jakub) Slattery-Duda; granddaughter, Madeleine; his son, Brian (Kimberly) Slattery-Gaston; his sister, Nance; and his brother, Mark.
