John Francis Vetrano, 86, a lifelong resident of Hartford, Connecticut, entered eternal rest with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 24, 2025, after a brief illness. Born to the late Frank and Anna Vetrano, John grew up in Hartford and attended Southwest Grammar School and Buckley High School before proudly serving four years in the United States Marine Corps.
John married his first wife Maureen, with whom they shared one son, the late David Vetrano. He then married his beloved wife, the late Madelyn Palmieri LaRosa in 1989. He was predeceased by his sister Mary (Roch) Audet and is survived by his loving sister Angela (Myron) Lepro of Asheville, NC. He is also survived by his devoted stepdaughter, Michele (Tom) Leahy of New Port Richey, FL.
A dedicated and highly skilled employee, John worked at Pratt & Whitney for 32 years. He was known as the person everyone turned to when a problem arose. John could fix anything, and his co-workers admired his steady competence and ingenuity.
John and Madelyn later moved to New Port Richey, FL in 1998. Together they shared a deep passion for boating, eating delicious Italian food, and enjoying quality time together in their beautiful home in FL. He cherished the sea, whether it was fishing, cruising, or simply listening to the calming rhythm of the waves. Together, John and Madelyn enjoyed a life full of love, joy, and contentment.
Family was at the center of John's life. He lovingly cared for his mother for many years, demonstrating unwavering devotion and loyalty. After Madelyn's passing, Michele and Tom helped fill the void in his life. They traveled together, shared many wonderful Italian meals, and created treasured memories, especially with his beloved great-granddaughter, Addyson. He was the rock of his entire family.
John leaves behind a family who adored him: grandchildren Daniel and Vanessa Vetrano, Joshua (Morgan) Leahy, Janessa (Daniel) Allen; and nieces and nephews Robin (Adam) Sprague, Karen (Mike) Sprague, Denise Audet, and Raymond Audet. He was also blessed with his great-granddaughter Addyson Allen, who brought him tremendous joy.
John will be remembered for his generous heart, strong work ethic, love of the ocean, and deep devotion to the people he loved. His legacy of kindness and quiet strength will live on in all who were fortunate enough to know him. A Christian burial will be held for John and Madelyn at St. Sebastians Cemetery in Middletown, CT with full military honors for John, in March 2026. A celebration of life for John and Madelyn will be held immediately after at Fiore II in Middletown, CT. For further inquiries about services, please reach out to Janessa Allen at
