John Robert Worpenberg

John R. Worpenberg, 74, of Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away on the 29th of January 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, tenderness, and thoughtful counsel.

He is preceded in death by his parents Frank Worpenberg and Evelyn Worpenberg (nee Sanker), mother-in-law Dorothy Eagle (nee Froehle) brothers Butch, Mark, Bob, and Kirk Worpenberg, and his brothers-in-law Bob and Michael Eagle.

He is survived by his loving wife Bev, his children Anna and Eric Alley, Ben Worpenberg, his siblings Frank (Faye), Lynn, Debbie (Glenn) Henderer, Bill (Lisa), Judy Hampel, Joe, and Douglas (Lisa), sisters-in-law Donna (Joe) Cunningham and Pam (Les) Rhoads, Rosie Eagle, Jenny Eagle, brothers-in-law Dan, Tony (Sandy), Ken (Marsha), Jeff (Teri), and by his many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and his lifetime friends The Vonderhides.

A devoted father and thoughtful listener, John had a rare ability to truly hear people and make them feel seen and valued. He gave his time, attention, and thoughtful counsel freely, often beginning conversations with his favorite question: "What are you reading?" He loved books and was always eager to share—bringing along copies of something he had just finished to pass on to friends and family. With that same care and attentiveness, he lovingly officiated the weddings of many couples, celebrating love with warmth—and occasionally, a perfectly timed joke that brought smiles to everyone in the room. He was so proud to officiate for the ones he loved so dearly. A lifelong fan of The Hobbit and The Beatles, he delighted in stories, music, and adventures, and could always be counted on for a witty observation.

Above all, John loved spending time with people—at family gatherings, he was often on the floor with the children, fully engaged and laughing alongside them.

Those who knew John felt deeply cared for in his presence, and though he is no longer with us, his love remains beside us, steady and sure.
