John "Jack" Zdon, 78, of Chicago, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2025. Born in Chicago to the late John and Violet (née Ciolkosz) Zdon of North Riverside; loving father of John Paul Zdon; proud grandfather of Laura Sjea Zdon (Henry) Lee and John Robert Zdon; dear brother of Barbara (the late Richard) Williams, Jeanette Hammond, Connie Baker and Denise (Jerry) Pippin; and fond uncle of many.
He treasured his family and spoke often of time spent with his grandchildren, Laura Sjea and John Robert, especially during their early years. He delighted in the simple, everyday moments they shared. Weekday breakfasts before school held special meaning for him. More than a meal, they were opportunities to talk, to listen, and to turn what the children were learning in school into gentle life lessons. Whether getting them ready for school or visiting a local bookstore, he loved transforming ordinary routines into "teachable moments" - nourishing not only their bodies but also their minds.
A graduate of John Marshall Law School, Jack was an attorney by trade and a lifelong Chicagoan who made friends from all walks of life. Known for his wit and dry sense of humor, he found clever ways to bring joy and laughter to those around him. A graduate of Fenwick High School, he attended Loyola University and received his law degree from John Marshall. He loved playing basketball, was an avid ping pong player in his later years and enjoyed watching and playing baseball with neighborhood friends.
Jack will be laid to rest at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside, Illinois; details of the memorial service to be announced at a later date.
