Johnny E. Wright Sr.

Johnny Edward Wright Sr., age 65, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 5, 2026, in Gary, Indiana, surrounded by his children. He worked for the City of East Chicago and St. Luke Housing Authority and was also known by many in the community as their favorite general contractor.
Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Cornelius Smith and Johnnie Wright, and his brothers, Tony Smith and Carter Dumas. Johnny leaves to cherish his loving memory his devoted wife, Helen Wright; his children, Edward Jennings, Saundra Wright, Anthony Cobb, Yvonne Cobb, Johnny Wright Jr., and Joshua Wright; and his beloved grandchildren, Anthony Cobb Jr., A'Niyla Cobb, Garey Daniels, and Alani Wright.
He is also survived by his siblings: Linda (Percy) Jones (Gary, IN), Maurice Smith (Park Forest, Il), Tawanna Wright (San Diego, CA), William Earl Smith (Linda) (Gary, IN), Doreen Wright (Indianapolis, IN), Theresa (Christopher) Lampkins (Hammond, IN), Johnny Waymon Wright (Theresa) (GA), Jacelene Donner (Inglewood, CA), LaKeisha Gamble (CT) and Yolanda Robinson (AL), along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
