Jon F. Humphrey, 68, husband of Cathy A. (Work) Humphrey, passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at Gilchrist Center Howard County.
Born in Clarinda, IA, he was the son of the late Fred and Carol (Hatfield) Humphrey.
In life, Jon loved his family, teaching elementary students, golf, and collecting sports memorabilia. He was a proud member of AA and celebrated 10 years sober in June 2025. Jon was well known for handing out Jolly Ranchers and cinnamon hard candy before he told a bad Dad joke.
Jon is survived by his wife of 41 years, Cathy, and his son, Nathan S. Humphrey. He is also survived by nieces and nephews Laura Camp, wife of Frederick, Cindy Stoik, Dan Stroik, Zachary Stroik, and Chris Godwin; sister-in-law Marilyn (Ayres) Humphrey, wife of the late Parke N. Humphrey; brother-in-law Gary Stroik, husband of the late Joan (Humphrey) Stroik; and brother-in-law Gill Godwin, husband of the late Pam (Humphrey) Godwin.
Jon's celebration of life will be held at his home of 25 years on Tuesday, December 30 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Bring your best "Jon story" and Dad joke. Jolly ranchers and cinnamon hard candy will be served.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gilchrist (gilchristcare.org).
