Jonathan Trombley, beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend, died October 5, 2025. He was 43.
Jon was exceptional in many ways - smarter than most, effortlessly funny, endlessly curious, and deeply devoted to his family.
Born in Bucks County, PA on Nov. 15, 1981, Jon was the third of four children born to Barbara (Long) and Brian Trombley. He was kind and curious from the start, the type of kid who, if another child wanted the toy he was playing with, he would gladly give it to them. As a three-year-old, he took meals with his mom to a lonely widower next door and cheered him up by playing ball with him. He looked after his brothers when they were sick and loved spending time with them. When Barb took him to pick out a puppy, he chose the one who seemed left out by the other dogs. He named the dog Harry. Jon liked to do impressions of Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino, Christopher Walken and others with Harry on his lap, his puzzled canine comedy partner.
Jon attended Bard College, where he met lifelong friends. To be Jon's friend meant seeing him light up when he greeted you. He loved to make his friends laugh and he was quick to share his apartment with friends who needed a spot to crash or a place to start over.
Jon's degree from Bard was in film, but his curiosity led him to other subjects; first law, then economics and math. When he developed a new interest, he was all in - once combing Brooklyn for a woodworker who could teach him about the trade. Jon earned a Master's degree in math and statistics from Hunter College and later worked in quantitative solutions and data analysis.
Jon was close to his family. He was in frequent contact with his siblings with whom he shared a taste for whiskey; adored his nephews and called his mother and grandmother every week. He was not interested in getting married or having children of his own until he met Jess. As one friend put it, sometimes the path isn't clear until you meet the right person to walk it. Jess was exactly his match. He loved how he felt around her and the gentle way she gave him space to be himself. Jess and Jon were married in August 2017. Their first child, Errol, was born in 2019 followed by Billie in 2022. Jon relished in being their father. As he told other new dads, enjoy every moment, because even the tough ones are great ones. The love he had for his kids made him glow from the inside out. His favorite thing to do was to make Jess, Errol and Billie laugh.
When he was diagnosed with leukemia in March of 2024, Jon battled the illness with his wife and children in mind. What he wanted most was to stay with them forever.
In addition to his parents, wife and children, Jon is survived by his grandmother, Marian Long of Clifton Park, NY; brothers Josh (Leigh) of Wilton, NY; Jeremy (Emmylou) of Darwin, Aus.; and Justin (Christina) of Walpole, Mass. He is also survived by aunts and uncles and numerous cousins.
Contributions in Jon's memory may be made to Halo House Foundation, whose mission is to provide affordable temporary housing for patients undergoing treatment for leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma at the Texas Medical Center. Jon and his mom stayed there while he was receiving care at MD Anderson in Houston, and the family will always be grateful for the comfort and community they found there.
