Jose Arcario Flores, 83 years old, residing in Jourdanton and Mission, Texas passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 28, 2026 surrounded by the love of his life, children and family.

Jose was born at 4:55 am on the Feast day of St. Joseph, March 19th, 1943, in San Antonio, Texas. His parents were Alejo S. Flores, Sr and Consuelo Fuentes. He was the 3rd child out of 12 with 8 brothers and 3 sisters. As a child, the family worked as migrate workers until they settled in Maumee, Ohio. As a young adult, Jose worked as a surgical tech. The doctors were so impressed with his work ethic that they offered to pay for his medical school. Shortly after, Jose was drafted. He was a proud Vietnam Veteran serving in the U.S. Army from April 12, 1966 to April 11, 1972 with an honorable discharge. His honors include: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and 2 Overseas Service Bars. His last duty was with the 544th ENGR CO. During this time he crafted his skill as a construction machine operator. He later educated himself at Stautzenberger College of Business and at Hobart School of Welding where he became a certified pipe fitter/welder by trade. He excelled at his craft and based on this was invited to become a Freemason and is a Master Mason. Jose worked for Townsend and Bottum, Inc. as a Piping Field and Civil Engineer at several power plants from 1969 to 1985 and then for General Motors (Toledo, OH) in 1985 as a skilled pipe fitter in big machinery maintenance until his retirement. He completed a Dale Carnegie Course in Effective Speaking and Human Relations through the UAW. Jose was also a member of the DAV (Disabled American Veteran), chapter J Earley San Antonio #14 and a 100% disabled veteran. He was a member of the American Legion and the UAW Local 14 in Toledo, OH.

Jose enjoyed going to the Church Mexican dances. As fate would have it, God made sure Jose would meet his one and only, Juana Anita Lopez. For over 55 years they were two peas in a pod, a couple who could dance the night away and a union that only death could separate.

Jose had many hobbies including traveling with his wife, equine ownership, carpentry, collecting and repairing watches, painting with acrylics, pastels and watercolors, collecting coins, stamps, tools, cars and spending time with his family and friends.
Jose had a kind and gentle soul and never hesitated to help those in need. His quiet strength and funny wit made those who met him see how special he was.

He obtained his residential builder’s license to fulfill his deep passion for renovating and building homes with his partner Juana Anita. He loved to help his family and friends with their home improvements and his work is displayed in their homes forever.

Papa was especially proud of his children and grandchildren and cherished his time spent with them. Papa prayed for them at every meal. Papa will always hold a special place in our heart.

Jose is survived by his wife Juana Anita Flores; his children: Cynthia Flores-Rae (Dr. Sean Rae), Dante Flores (Sarah); his grandchildren: Ireland Flores Rae (Chase Knodle), Chloe Flores, Emerald Flores Rae, Zoe Flores Rae, Riley Flores, and Greyson Flores; his siblings: Alejo Flores Jr. (Betty), Dr. Xavier Flores (Mary Beth), Felisiano Flores, David Flores (Janice), Erlinda McCaffrey (Marc), Reynaldo Flores (Gina), Fernando Flores (Nancy), John Flores, and Chriselda Hernandez (Ricardo); and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, God children, and other family members and friends. Jose was preceded in death by his parents Alejo Sr and Consuelo Flores, and his siblings Magdalena Ortiz and Antonio Flores.
