Jose "Joe" Carlos Gonzales passed away on November 26, 2025, at the age of 78. Joe was born in Corpus Christi, Texas to Maria Nava and Juan B. Gonzales. He attended Miller High School and remained a resident of Corpus Christi for many years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and a friend to many. Family was everything to Joe. There was nothing he wouldn't do for them. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends that loved him.
Joe's career was in the construction business, where his skills developed from laborer to superintendent. He headed several construction projects in the Corpus Christi area, including One Shoreline Plaza, Port Royal Condominiums, and the Nueces Bay Causeway. His career ended with a retirement from the Texas Department of Public Safety. Joe fully enjoyed fishing, hunting, slots, keno, music, and most importantly, spending time with family. He was always the life of the party with his witty sense of humor.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Maria and Juan B Gonzales, brother Henry Gonzales, sister Maria Pena, and parents-in-law Manuel and Luisa Vega.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Herminia "Minnie" Gonzales; three children Hilda (Patrick) O'Burke, Jose "Joe" Jr. (Alda) Gonzales, and Maria "Mary" (Robert) Pena; nine grandchildren, Rodney Garza Jr, Joe III, Jacob and Joshua Gonzales, Robert III and Ryan Pena, Aaron Lopez , Ronnie Moon and Autumn O'Burke; and two great-grandchildren, Oliver and Elliot Moon. Joe also leaves behind two sisters, Mary Jane Cervantes and Margie Garza, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Thursday, December 4, from 3pm-8pm at Guardian Funeral Home, with a rosary to be recited at 6:30pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30am on Friday, December 5, at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, 3502 Saratoga Blvd., Corpus Christi. Burial will follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Joe's beloved grandsons, Rodney Garza Jr., Joe Gonzales III, Jacob Gonzales, Joshua Gonzales, Robert Pena III, Aaron Lopez and Honorary Pallbearer, Ryan Pena.
