November 3, 1949 – February 3, 2026

Joseph I. Ayaye Dokubo went to be with the Lord on February 3, 2026. He died at home in the loving care of his daughter and family in Chesapeake Beach, Maryland. He was a devoted man of faith, a loving father and grandfather, and a cherished brother and friend whose warmth and kindness touched all who knew him.

Born to Mr. Millar Ayaye Dokubo and Madam Emily K. O. Manuel from Abonnema, Rivers State in Nigeria, he was proud of his Kalabari culture. With the family's strong focus on education, he attended Bishop Crowder Memorial School, Nyemoni Grammar School, and the College of Science and Technology in Nigeria. He moved to the United States to continue his education and started his Freshman year at Utah State University before transferring to George Washington University in Washington, DC and earning a degree in Electrical Engineering. Known affectionately as Uncle Joe to his loved ones, he lived a life marked by integrity, compassion, and dedication to family, faith, and community. He was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Sunderland, Maryland, USA and St. Cyprian’s Anglican Church in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, where he built lasting relationships grounded in faith and fellowship.

He is survived by and deeply loved by his daughter Dr. Emily Kainne Dokubo, son-in-law Austen Nwaochei, granddaughter Ava Adora Kariba Nwaochei, and grandson Andrew Afam Karibi Nwaochei; son Jonathan Dokubo; siblings HRH David Serena-Dokubo Spiff, Millaba Fiberesima, Eben Dokubo, Doigha Douglas, Gbeyam Dokubo, and Ngo Dakoru Whyte and their families; and a host of relatives, friends, and loved ones. Uncle Joe’s legacy of faith and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life at a funeral service on Monday, February 16, 2026, at 11:00 am at All Saints Episcopal Church. 100 Lower Marlboro Road, Sunderland, Maryland 20689 (https://allsaints1692.org/).
