Joseph Eric Fithian, born on February 20, 1958, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, passed away on January 12, 2026, in Temple, Texas, surrounded by friends and family. He was 67 years old.
Joseph's life was marked by service, dedication, and a deep commitment to his faith. After earning his Bachelor of Science degree from Chico State University in California, he answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Marine Corps. He served honorably for six years, embodying the values of discipline and integrity that would guide him throughout his life.
Following his military service, Joseph continued to serve others through his work with Wycliffe Associates. In this role, he traveled extensively across the globe to establish networking systems that enabled Wycliffe Translators to synchronize their work online. His efforts played a vital part in accelerating the translation of Bibles and other materials—work that was deeply meaningful to him and aligned with his enduring passion for missions.
Joseph found a spiritual home in Chico, California—a town he cherished and considered his home away from home. There, he remained active in missions support through his local church community. His devotion to spreading the Word and supporting global outreach efforts reflected both his technical skills and his unwavering faith.
He is survived by ten siblings and one daughter, Renae Fithian. He also leaves behind a large extended family of cousins, nieces, and nephews who will remember him with love and admiration.
Joseph Eric Fithian will be deeply missed by those who knew him. A devoted servant of Christ, he lived a life of purpose and compassion. May his memory bring comfort to all who mourn him—and may we look forward with hope to reuniting with him one day in heaven.
