Joseph J. Kubik, 91, of Chester, CT, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, March 31, 2026. Born in 1935 in Dupont, Pennsylvania, Joseph was the youngest of seven children born to Pauline and Walter Kubik. Raised in a hardworking Polish immigrant coal-mining family, Joe learned early the values of dedication, resilience, and faith ... qualities that shaped the man he would become throughout his life.
He served in the United States Army as a Sergeant (E-5) in the 143rd Signal Battalion, stationed in Frankfurt, Germany, where he was Radio Communications Section Chief. After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the Newark College of Engineering (now NJIT), Joe built a long and distinguished career as an electrical engineer with Western Electric/AT&T Technologies. Of note, in 1976 he was selected for a special task force that developed the SG Submarine Cable Repeaters used in what was then the largest-capacity undersea telephone cable ever placed in service ... a groundbreaking advancement in transatlantic telecommunications.
Joe married his high school sweetheart, Mary Ann Korzemba and together they built a life in Wallington, New Jersey, where Joe became a respected and dedicated member of the community. He served on the Town Council, was a member of the PNCC Church of the Transfiguration, and was deeply involved in Freemasonry. He served as Worshipful Master of Garfield Lodge #276 as well as Senior Grand Steward and District Deputy Grand Master of the 4th Masonic District of the Grand Lodge of New Jersey. Known for his steady presence and quiet strength, he formed lasting friendships and touched many lives.
Above all, Joe was devoted to his family. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, whose greatest joy came from gathering with those he loved. He took pride in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren and cherished every milestone and memory they created together.
Those who knew Joe will remember not only what he did, but the care and integrity he brought to everyday life. He had a way of making people feel valued and will be remembered for his unwavering work ethic, deeply rooted faith, and enduring love for his family. Joe wanted his children to know their roots, and he passed that on in simple, everyday ways. Deeply connected to his heritage, he lived with kindness, perseverance, and a quiet strength.
He is survived by his children Kimberly (Deac) Etherington, Joseph (Lori) Kubik, Kristine Kubik (Paul Kapsalis), and Marianne Kubik; his grandchildren Sarah Kubik and Stephen Kubik; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews, as well a great-grand niece and nephews. He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 42 years, Mary Ann; his parents Pauline and Walter; and his siblings Walter, Helen Fritschy, Victoria (Patsy) Turkos, Alexander, Irene, and Mary Ann Rysz.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at Lokuta-Zawacki Funeral Home, 200 Wyoming Ave., Dupont, PA. Viewing will be 8:00am - 9:30am, with a funeral service at 10:00am at Holy Mother of Sorrows Polish National Catholic Church, 212 Wyoming Avenue, Dupont, PA.
