2026

Joshua Ryan Green, 47, of Anniston, AL, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2026 at 10 p.m. after a courageous battle with cancer.

Josh was a graduate of Saks High School and Jacksonville State University. He was a genuinely kind soul and was deeply loved by those who knew him best. Having a great passion for sports, Josh had a natural athletic ability and a competitive spirit, excelling in both football and baseball. Josh’s passion for sports was also shown in his love for Alabama football. He was very passionate about the games and would always be seen cheering on his favorite team. Josh enjoyed playing golf with friends and he considered himself to be a great grill master as he loved to BBQ.

Later in life, Josh made his home in Lafayette, LA, where he proudly worked as a groundskeeper at Moncus Park. He truly found joy in his work there. Josh had an eye for the details as he cared deeply about creating a space that felt peaceful, welcoming, and full of life. Over the past year, he faced cancer with incredible strength and determination. Even during treatment, he chose to keep working when he could- not out of obligation, but because it gave him purpose. He loved seeing families, friends, and community members gather in the park he worked so hard to care for. It meant something to him to be part of that. He will forever live on in the beauty of this park and in the community he helped nurture.

To know Josh was to know someone who showed up in quiet, steady ways. He will be remembered for his heart, his resilience, and the way he made people feel at ease just by being himself. His presence will be deeply missed, but his impact will live on.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Billy Ray Green (2018) and Joyce Guthrie Green (2023), who shared 58 years of marriage and created a loving family that Josh was so proud to be part of.

Josh is survived by his son, Zachary Jackson Freeman, and Zach’s mother, Elizabeth Freeman, of Delta, AL; his sister, Laurie Green Shepherd (David) of Columbus, GA; his brother, Tyler Ray Green (Tonje Brannan) of Pensacola, FL; and his brother, Blake Matthew Green (Jose Torres) of Atlanta, GA. Josh was surrounded by loving friends in a wonderful community. A special thank you to his work family at Moncus Park, Rebecca Hetherwick and Joey Soulier for your friendship, support, and dedication to Josh.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
