Joshua Edward "Josh" Mattingly, 42, passed away on January 11, 2026, in Houston, Texas. Born on July 20, 1983, in Houston, Josh spent his early years in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he lived from the age of three until fifteen. At that time, he returned to Texas to live with his father and stepmother, remaining there for the rest of his life.

Josh was a devoted father who cherished his daughters Bailey, Luna, and Seraphina of Houston. His love for his family was boundless and evident in every aspect of his life. He is also survived by his stepmother Pam Mattingly of Austin, Texas; his mother Victoria Smitherman of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and his sister Derien Mattingly and her husband Justin Goodpaster along with their daughter Eisley. Josh’s extended family includes his Aunt Phyllis Mattingly; cousins Shelly Mattingly-Arnold and her husband Dan; Jake Ryan and his wife Megan; as well as many relatives in New Mexico.

He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter Lilly; his father Jack Edward Mattingly; grandparents Simon Mattingly and Mary Alice Mattingly-Bouray; and his Aunt Linda Mattingly-Harmon.

Josh had a sharp mind and a passion for philosophical discussions. He could engage anyone—whether an old friend or someone he had just met—in deep conversations that often lasted for hours. His intellect was matched by a creative spirit that found expression through art and gaming. Josh was a talented artist whose work reflected both skill and imagination.

One of Josh’s greatest joys was camping at the Texas Renaissance Fair. It became a cherished tradition for him—a place where he could immerse himself in the vibrant atmosphere while enjoying the outdoors. His love for nature and adventure shone brightly during these trips.

Josh’s warmth and ability to connect with others left an indelible mark on those who knew him. His memory will be treasured by all who were fortunate enough to share in his life.

May Joshua Edward "Josh" Mattingly’s memory bring comfort to those who loved him deeply.
