Joy Ann Burgess, 84, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2026, in Augusta, Maine. Born on October 14, 1941, in Biddeford, Maine, Joy brought light and laughter into the world from the very beginning.

She grew up in Maine and attended Waterville High School, where her vibrant personality and creative spirit began to shine. Throughout her life, Joy remained deeply rooted in her faith and community. A devoted Christian and loyal friend, she was known for her boundless compassion and magnetic presence. Her smile could brighten any room, and her warmth drew people in—strangers often became friends within moments of meeting her.

Joy's love for others was matched only by her fierce devotion to her family. She was the heart of her home—a "Mama Bear" whose hugs healed wounds and whose listening ear offered comfort through every season of life. Whether it was a heartfelt conversation or a steaming bowl of pasta shared around the table, Joy made everyone feel cherished.

She was a talented artist who expressed herself through creativity as much as through kindness. Her wild spirit and zest for life were unmistakable—she lived with a song in her heart and dancing feet that never tired. Her joy was contagious; she had an uncanny ability to make others feel seen and loved.

Joy is survived by her beloved daughters, Lisa (Dennis) Duval and Andrea Henry (Bill) Buker; grandchildren Annee Corson (Shawn Campbell), Ashley St. Pierre (Jared Ricker), Elizabeth Lord (JT Taylor), and Zachary Lord; and great-granddaughter Alice Rose Ricker. Each of them carries forward pieces of Joy's legacy—her strength, humor, faith, and love.

She was predeceased by her husband Donald Dow; her parents Lloyd and Helen (Philbrick) Burgess; and her brothers Gene, Butch, and Chris Burgess.

Though she has departed this world, Joy Ann Burgess leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to inspire all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to those who carry her spirit in their hearts. A Memorial Service will be held on June 5, 2026, from 02:00 PM to 02:30 PM at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery 143 Blue Star Ave. A Celebration of Life will be held on June 5, 2026, at 02:45 PM at Community Christian Fellowship Church 187 Sewall St. Augusta, Maine.

A special thank you to the wonderful and caring staff at the Glenridge Longterm Care facility.
