Joyce Capler Mitchell

Queen and Matriarch of the Gary Indiana Capler family Joyce Capler Mitchell passed from this life to be with God Tuesday, December 9, 2025. She was a proud graduate of Horace Mann High School in Gary Indiana. She achieved her Associates Degree. She formerly worked at the Calumet Township Trustees office, the Gary Sanitation Department and Ultra Foods. She was preceded in death by her Mother, Mrs. Evelyn Capler; her father, Mr. Earl McCloud, and her Great Grandson, Da'Monton Andrá Gregory. Left to carry on her legacy is her Son, Dontaye Capler and Daughter Tawana Proctor-Robinson; Grandchildren, Taundaleria (Yarbrough) Jones, Cleeandre (Tabitha) Ross, Samara (Jaime) Hernandez, DontaShia Capler, and Jaime Ross; Great Grandchildren, Tavon Howard, Warren Highbaugh III, Giovanni Hernandez, Neomi Hernandez, and Kei'Mani Grimes; Her Sisters, Gloria Capler and Dorothy (Philip) Moore. Also a host of extended family included cousins, nieces, nephews, Aunts, and Uncles, and close friends. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at McDuffie Funeral Home 1525 Broadway Gary, IN 46407. Viewing 9:00AM-10:00AM with funeral service immediately following at10:00AM.
