Our beloved mother and mentor, Juanita Powell Moore Lee, age 91, passed away on Tuesday, February 16, 2026 with family at her bedside. She will forever be known for her infectious smile and laughter. She taught her children love by example and her selflessness, sense of duty and humility made her the ideal role model.
Mom was a woman who more than anything loved her family and delighted in spending time with them. Her marriage to Gene Moore produced 4 children, Richard Moore (Sherrill) , Bunnie Weatherford (Bubba), Betty Moore-Bell (Michael) and Susan Kirkland (Ricky). The blessing of a second marriage to James T. Lee (JT), added more children for her to cherish including Debbie Floyd (Steve), Donnie Lee (Wendy), Jimmy Lee (Suzanne), Vicki Carraway (Jeff), Bill Lee and Tommy Lee. This blended family provided her with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, all of whom filled her heart with joy.
Mom accepted Christ as her Savior as a child and practiced her faith throughout her life. She and JT enjoyed serving in their local congregations in various ways frequently involving food, which was her love language, and activities such as Vacation Bible School, ministries to the underprivileged with food and clothing and group Bible studies.
Mom loved to travel with JT. They were known to frequently run off to the mountains and also reveled in spending time at their second home at Santee, fishing, boating and fellowshipping over meals. They delighted in organized bus trips and tours with church friends, old and new. They were avid followers of many Southern Gospel groups, attending “singings” far and wide.
Mom and JT enjoyed countless hours working together in their yard which was always perfectly manicured and frequently complimented as “that beautiful yard on the corner”. Her green thumb was evident in the multitudes of blooms her plants produced. Many have received cuttings, roots or bulbs from some of her favorite plants allowing her to live on in many gardens.
Annual Take-Momma-to-the Mountains trips with daughters, granddaughters and nieces always centered around Mom and generated lasting memories of love and laughter which will span generations.
During Mom’s lengthy career she managed local restaurants including but not limited to The Coffee Shop across from the old McLeod Infirmary, the Donut Dinette and ultimately she retired from Management of Food Services at the Palmetto Center/SC Voc Rehab.
Visitation will be held at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home on Saturday, February 21, 2026 from 10-11am with her funeral service following in the chapel at 11am. Graveside service will be family only. Memorials may be made to Grace Baptist Church in Florence, SC.
