Judith Ann Smith, 77 of Ocala, Florida (and Remus, Michigan) went to be with our Lord and Savior on December 27, 2025. She lived a life in faith and was a servant to the Lord. Her Christian values shaped her into the compassionate woman we all knew and loved. We couldn’t have asked for a better mother, Grama and Friend. Judy was a woman of wisdom and kindness.
Judy was born in Evart, Michigan to Thelma and Carleton Johnson on August 18, 1948. She graduated from Remus high school in 1965. She married her high school sweetheart David Smith on December 5, 1965. They were so in love and enjoyed an incredible 58 happy years together. They enjoyed having friends over for dinner and playing euchre. Together, they built a successful farm equipment business based on the foundation of hard work, honesty, and integrity, known as Smith Equipment. They raised their three beloved daughters together in a home filled with laughter, warmth, and love. Judy also worked as the Clerk for Sheridan Township for many years.
Judy enjoyed playing the piano. From a very young age she played for church services. Eventually David and Judy became the worship leaders at their church. Sunday mornings were busy as they prepared to share with the congregation their love for Jesus. Judy was also the youth group leader of Weidman Nazarene Church. She planned various trips each year with the group to camps and Cedar point. David and Judy hosted many pizza and pool parties throughout the year as they wanted to let their love for the Lord shine through to demonstrate to the teens that praising the Lord could also be fun. Together, they impacted many lives with their excellent lessons and Christian values. Judy’s life was a blessing to all of those who knew and loved her, and her memory is a treasure that will always live in our hearts.
Judy is survived by her children Trudy (Scott) Fodor of Barryton, MI. Kelley (Nick) Gadbury of Mt. Pleasant, MI & Tammy (Steve) Versluis of The Villages, FL. Her brothers Steve (Judy) Johnson , Max (Gayle) Wernette. Brother-in-law Leward (Ronni) Smith & sister-in-law Naoma (Clifford) Cranston. Eight grandchildren who all meant the world to her. Andrea, Jessica, Becky, Cassandra, Courtney, Lindsay, Keegan and Mark. Also ten beautiful great grandchildren that she loved so much. Judy was known for giving popsicles to the grandkids when they were supposed to be in timeout, another example of her kind heart.
Judy is proceeded in death by her loving husband, David Smith, parents Carleton & Thelma Johnson, brother Richard Johnson, father in-law Carl Smith, mother-in-law Ethel Smith & brother-in-laws Veral Smith and Alvin Smith.
There will be a funeral held at Fellow Baptist Church in Ocala, Florida on Saturday, January 10, 2026 starting at 1PM with Pastor Matt Campbell officiating. Visitation will take place one hour before the service.
The ashes of Judy and David Smith will be buried together this summer in Remus, Michigan.
