Judith Lynn Rubin, affectionately known as "Judy", "NanaFrog", "Pix" and "Grauntie Judy," passed away peacefully at her home in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, on December 18, 2025, at the age of 81. Born in Canada, Judy’s life was a celebration of love, resilience, and an enduring connection to family and nature.
Judy graduated from St. Clement's School in Toronto before pursuing her passion for caregiving by graduating from Toronto's Women's College Hospital as a Nurse. Her career in nursing reflected her unwavering dedication to helping others and left a lasting impact on those she cared for.
Judy shared a profound bond with her husband, David Paul Rubin, who was the love of her life and her soulmate. She is now at peace and reunited with David, and her parents, Norman Donaldson and Kathryn (Gooderham) Donaldson.
Judy is survived by her daughter Kate Word and Kate’s partner Rich; her grandchildren Sam and Joseph; her brother Richard Donaldson and his wife Daphne; their three children; and their cherished grandchildren. Judy treasured every moment spent with them and delighted in watching them grow.
Her passions extended beyond family to photography, nature, frogs, reading, sailing, the beach, and maintaining strong ties to her Canadian roots. Known for finding beauty in the world around her—whether through the lens of a camera or in the quiet serenity of nature—Judy’s love for frogs became a signature trait that endeared her to many as "NanaFrog."
Though she ultimately lost her years long fight against COPD, Judy faced every day with courage and grace. She continued to embrace life to the best of her ability until passing peacefully at home. Her memory will forever inspire those who knew her to find joy in life’s simple yet profound moments.
May Judy’s spirit live on in the hearts of all who loved her.
