Judith Ann Sandler Potoff (Judi), 80, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on February 23, 2026.
Judi was born on December 28, 1945, to the late Bernard and Rose (Selwitz) Sandler and grew up in West Hartford, CT, where she graduated from Conard High School.
Judi earned her master’s degree in special education from the University of Hartford. She went on to become a devoted special education teacher, spending many years nurturing and guiding young children. She found true purpose in helping others, and her kindness, patience, and empathy left a lasting impact on the students and families she served.
Judi carried with her a positive outlook that never wavered, always choosing to see the bright side of things and encouraging others to do the same.
Those who knew Judi will remember her love of dancing and music, her adventurous spirit, and her deep appreciation for nature. She delighted in travel and exploring new destinations, whether near or far, but some of her happiest moments were the simplest ones — nature walks, laughter with friends, and time spent with her three beloved daughters. She adored traveling with her girls, creating memories filled with joy, discovery, and togetherness.
Judi shared a special bond with her older brother, Mark, whom she considered her true hero and someone she always looked up to. Family was the center of her world, and she loved wholeheartedly.
Her heart belonged to Cape Cod, where summers with her family became treasured traditions. Days spent at Long Pond and Breakwater Beach, surrounded by sunshine and salt air, were her greatest joy. Those Cape Cod summers shaped her family in countless ways, and they will forever remain among their most cherished memories.
Judi is survived by her three loving daughters, Carrie Potoff, Debbi Lee and her husband Paul, and Michele Vendig and her husband Brian; her two grandchildren, Gavin and Madison; her brother, Mark Sandler, and his wife Samantha; and ex-husband, Mort Potoff.
Judi’s life was defined by kindness, optimism, empathy, and a free-spirited joy that lifted everyone around her. She leaves behind a legacy of love — in the lessons she taught, the children she nurtured, the friendships she treasured, and the family who adored her. Her light will continue to shine in all who were fortunate enough to know her.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Judi’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, https://www.alz.org.
