Judith Foster Smith, 88, Cutler Bay, FL. January 7,1934 - January 12, 2022. Judith Smith passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family. Judith was born at Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, New Jersey. She spent her formative years at St. Marguerite's Orphanage in Mendam, New Jersey, where she was taught by Sisters of St. John Baptist. Throughout her life, Miss Smith credited the Sisters with giving her a strong faith foundation and upbringing. Judith was a 1951 graduate of the College High School of Montclair University and an alumna of Fairleigh Dickinson University. For nearly 40 years, Judith worked in the regulatory affairs department for Schearing-Plough Pharmaceuticals in Kennilworth, NJ. A lifelong and devout Episcopalian, Miss Smith lived in Montclair and Caldwell, NJ and was a beloved member of St. Peter's Church in Essex Fells. In her retirement, Judith volunteered as Music Librarian and lovingly served as Choir Mother to all who sang. In 2010, Judith relocated to Schenectady, New York to be near family. Miss Smith was a communicant at St. George's Episcopal Church and continued to volunteer as Music Librarian and Choir Mom. She loved to help at church wherever she was needed. Judith, never Judy, was a wonderful and sweet lady and it was not uncommon for strangers to ask her for a hug just because. In 2018, Judith moved to Florida with family and has been a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Palmetto Bay.
Judith was predeceased by sister and brother-in-law Joan and Ward Patterson and nephew Mark Patterson. She is survived by Andrew Krystopolski and Kevin Grace, sisters, Linda C. Smith of Olympia, WA.,Kaila Wilkes (Steve) of Fairfax, VA., Niece, Susan Powell of Edmonds WA, nephew, Craig Patterson of Sacramento Valley,CA, and great nephew, Ryan Powell. The family extends thanks to Hilda Jorge and the staff at Assisting Hands, Miami. Also to the team of Vitas Hospice. A memorial service was held on Saturday, February 5, 2022, 11am at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 14260 Old Cutler Rd, Palmetto Bay, 33158.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Judith's name to: The Community of St. John Baptist, PO Box 240, Mendham, NJ, 07945. As per Miss Smith request, her ashes were spread on the grounds of the family mountain home in Morris, PA.
