Judy Ann Miller Knight passed away on October 1st with her son Jason by her side. Born on June 8, 1942 to Eleanor & Rudy Miller at St. Joseph’s Hospital in San Francisco, Judy was a true wartime baby, having been evacuated on a military transport from Pearl Harbor when her mother was just a few months pregnant with her. Throughout her life, her family was very active in the Nature Friends Tourist Club, which her grandparents helped establish and in which her parents were very active. She was a proud lifelong member, spending summers and winter weekends with her brother Ron, cousin Karen, and their extended group of close-knit friends at the Heidelmann Lodge in the Sierras.
In high school, she was voted Best Sense of Humor in her senior year and soon after, she went on to attend junior college in San Mateo where she was a member of the Omicron Alpha sorority. She got married and settled down in Cupertino, giving birth to her son Jason in 1966. She had a successful career as a communications executive for Western Electric Telephone where she was responsible for putting out the Yellow and White Pages directory for over three decades.
She enjoyed a very active and long retirement, moving to the North Bay in her early 50s, first living in Santa Rosa and then settling even further north in Hidden Valley Lake. Throughout her entire life, Judy loved to play games and was always up for a game of cards or ready to join the family Fantasy Football League. She was a member of a bowling league, an avid bridge player, and in her retirement years, she cultivated a love for golf, winning tournament trophies, as well as scoring not just one, but two hole-in-ones. She loved to travel with her friends and family, and took trips to Europe and cruises with her family and many of her dear friends from Heidelmann.
As part of her strong Catholic faith, she had a very robust sense of commitment to helping the most vulnerable among us. In her early retirement, she was an active volunteer with Canine Companion in Santa Rosa, and in Hidden Valley she volunteered with Catholic Charities Rural Food Program, Middletown Spirit of the Season, Middletown’s St. Joseph Catholic Church Altar Society, as well as Totes4Teens. She also was a true animal lover, whether it was her own dog or cats, or any lost cats she would feed.
She was a wonderful and caring friend, whether to the friends she had known all of her life through Heidelmann, or the Sassy Sisters that became her best friends during retirement. She was incredibly dedicated to her family as an amazing mother, loving sister and cousin, and favorite aunt to each and every one of her large crew of nieces and nephews. She truly loved life and connecting with people, to tell stories, and always ready to share a good laugh.
Everyone who knew her will miss her amazing laugh, but those who will miss it most are her son, Jason Knight, brother and sister-in-law Ron and Loretta Miller and their families. Memorial donations can be made in her name to Heidelmann Lodge c/o Lori Rittweger 841 Cape Breton Dr Pacifica CA 94044.
