Julius Peter Nagy (Julie,) age 99, of Sunbury, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully, at home, in his sleep, on February 3d. He was born on January 23, 1927, in the Bronx, New York, and was married to his loving wife, Dolores Nagy for more than 73 years.
Julie was interested in aviation even in his youth, and was accepted to The Manhattan High School of Aviation. Flying small Cessna airplanes would be a life-long passion that included being a member of the Metropolitan Flying Club at Teterboro Airport and flying for the Civil Air Patrol in Selinsgrove.
Baseball was another of his passions, and he was scouted by the NY Yankees in 1943 when he was just 16 years old.
Julie had a strong desire to serve his country and joined the navy at 17. He served in the Pacific theater, in Okinawa, as a tail gunner and radio man on a PBM. It was in the Navy that he was first trained in electronics.
In 1946 he began a career with RCA who sent him to learn about the then-new medium of television. Julie worked for RCA for about five years while also building a personal clientele on the side.
In 1951, as the family grew, Julie moved to River Edge New Jersey, and started the successful family business, Dell TV, which he ran for over 35 years.
He retired to Sunbury, Pennsylvania in the 1980s, where he turned a stamp-collecting hobby into his next, successful business as a stamp dealer.
Julie is survived by his sons: Steve and partner Serena and Jeff, and daughter-in-law Trudy, grandsons: Jeffrey and wife Natalie, and Alex and partner Anthony, as well as two great-grandsons: Charles and Oliver. He is pre-deceased by his wife Dolores.
Memorial services will be held privately by the family.
Contributions in Julie's memory may be made to the ASPCA, but the best way to honor Julie might also be by thanking a vet for their service.
