June D. Segura McKenna, age 67, of Lakeland, FL, formerly of Streamwood, IL, passed away Saturday, January 17, 2026 at home with her family by her side.
She was born on May 29, 1958 in Morton Grove, Illinois, the daughter of Thomas and Doris (Danielson) McKenna.
June was a proud mother of seven children and a devoted grandmother to eight grandchildren. Her greatest accomplishment was her family, and she especially cherished her role as "Nani"—a name she embraced because she was too young to be a grandma. She spent most of her working life in restaurants, where her friendly and quick wit made her popular with both co-workers and customers. Her favorite co-worker was Rick who she met over three decades ago, and he turned out to be the love of her life.
A few years ago, June embarked on a new adventure in sunny Florida, where she embraced the freedom of her new life. She loved cruising around in her convertible and her golf cart with her sidekick, Maci, and she even earned her Captain's certification so she could drive a boat. June delighted in this sense of independence while remaining deeply connected to her family back home.
She is survived by her children, Shaun of South Elgin, IL, James "TJ" (Melissa) of Geneva, IL, Michael of Carpentersville, IL, Magali (Sigifredo) of Bolingbrook, IL, Christopher of Streamwood, IL, Miranda (Macon Daroci) of Lakeland, FL and Victoria of New Port Richey, FL; her beloved grandchildren Alexa, Bailey, Ryan, Jake, Kaylee, Leela. Charlee and Willa; her siblings MaryEllen and Eileen McKenna of Hoffman Estates, IL, Diane (Lenny) Thorne and Janet McKenna of Des Plaines, IL, and John (Betty) McKenna of Lake in the Hills, IL, many nieces and nephews, in-laws Ignacio and Gregoria Perez of Victorville, CA; many other relatives and friends. June was also known as "mom" to Jessica Vigil and Jasmine Alba she loved them as they were her own and she was their mother figure.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and love of her life Enrique "Rick" Segura and brother Thomas McKenna.
A celebration of June's life will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, February 14, at The Chapel at Willow Creek Church, 67 Algonquin Rd, Barrington, IL 60010.
