Karen Lee Brockmyer Coletta, 69, passed away Friday February 27, 2026. She was born in Erie on September 30. 1956, daughter of the late Dr. M.L. and June Helen Heinz Brockmyer.
She graduated from Strong Vincent High School in 1974 and earned an R.N. from Penn State Behrend in 1980. She was licensed as a Nursing Home Administrator.
Karen was passionate about nursing. She became Director of Nursing and Administrator of Progressive Care at Hamot Medical Center in Erie, where she worked for over 20 years. She worked in supervisory positions at other local hospitals and assisted living facilities, and as as office nurse for Dr. Ann Marie Lizka.
She was the owner/operator of the Hi and Dri Pub, with her surviving husband, Jaxon Coletta.
Karen was kind and authentic, and treated everyone with respect. She was capable, approachable, creative and open-minded. She was intelligent and dedicated to everything she pursued.
Karen was a fantastic host and cook, loved traveling and spending time with her husband, family and pets. She was free-spirited and intuitive. She loved music and was interested in political justice. She had a great sense of humor and laughed at life, even when it became difficult.
She is survived by three children, seven grandchildren and one great grandchild; Colleen Flatley, Shannon and Jesse Ciotti; Isabella, Caden, Emma, Joshua, Anthony, Vinnie, Carter and her dog, Tippy.
She is further survived by sister Dr. Jeanne Brockmyer, Toledo, and Richard Brockmyer, Salt Lake City; niece Jenna, nephews Teddy, Brandon and Richard.
A celebration of life will be held in April, to be announced at a later date.
