Karen Kay Riddles of Crystal Beach on the Bolivar Peninsula, Texas, passed peacefully from this life on April 12, 2026, in her home, surrounded by loved ones and her precious Charlie Mack.
Karen was born on May 14, 1955, in Perryton, Texas. On August 19, 1972, she married the love of her life, Jerry Don Riddles. Together they shared 54 years of playful devotion, building a life centered on love, laughter, and family.
She is lovingly remembered by her sons, Jeremy Riddles and his wife Bethany of Austin, Texas, and Wesley Riddles of Austin, Texas; her grandchildren, Starr, Savannah, Hallie, and Jocelyn; her great grandchildren, Octavia and Lorelei; her beloved dog, Charlie Mack; her brother, Steve Sloan and his wife Janet of California; and many cherished family members and dear friends.
Karen was welcomed into heaven by her parents, Hubert and Rosa Sloan, and her brothers, Stan and Starr Sloan.
Karen had a gift for bringing people together. She loved to entertain and took great joy in feeding family and friends. Her home was a place of warmth, laughter, and full plates. She was known for her bright smile, her laughter, and her ability to find something positive even in difficult moments. She taught those around her how to love deeply, care generously, and cherish family above all else.
Karen also had a natural and lasting impact on her community. She was a second mom to many neighborhood children, always offering a place of comfort, encouragement, and belonging. She played a meaningful role in helping establish and build the Church of Conscious Harmony in Austin, Texas, leaving a legacy of connection, faith, and service that will continue for years to come.
The little things she did so effortlessly will be remembered and missed beyond words.
There will be two opportunities to celebrate Karen's life. The first will be held on May 2, 2026, at the Church of Conscious Harmony in Austin, Texas, with a reception to follow. The second will take place on May 14, 2026, as we celebrate her birthday and the beautiful life she lived at the Tiki Bar in her beloved Crystal Beach, Texas.
Life is not a journey to the grave arriving in a well presented body. One should show up late and skid in sideways, screaming, "Whoo hoo, what a ride!"
