Baton Rouge, LA - Karen "Lynn" Smith passed away on January 12, 2026, at age 65, in Houston, Texas. She was born on January 7, 1961, in Abbeville, LA, to Dorothy "Dot" Smith. Lynn was an avid animal lover who rescued countless animals over her life that even required her to build "cat condos" at the houses she lived in. She donated money to charities that advanced the better treatment of animals and even became vegan in support of all animals. Lynn loved sports - particularly the LSU Lady Tigers, dancing, traveling, and just spending time watching tv or going to the movies with her loving life partner, Karen.
Lynn is preceded by her maternal grandmother, Azilie LeBlanc. Lynn is survived by her loving and devoted domestic partner of 31 years, Karen Smith; her step-children, Andrew Smith, David Smith (Opal), and Kelly Fefel; grandchildren, Kelsy Smith, Madison Forester (Tuff), and Andie Smith; her mother, Dorothy, "Dot" Smith, her sister, Sandra Frederick (Jerry), and nieces and nephews.
Above all, she will be remembered for her huge heart, loud laugh, endless empathy, and of course, her unwavering love for her family. She will be missed and remembered by all who knew her.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at a location in or near Baton Rouge to be determined and shared later. The family would like to thank the kind doctors (Dr. Naomi Adejai and Dr. Shirley Zheng) and nurses at MD Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to MD Anderson, the ASPCA or to Chimp Haven.
