Karl Hagebusch

1937 - 2026

Karl Everette Hagebusch, 88, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 7, 2026, in Plano, Texas, after a long battle with dementia. Born on August 3, 1937, in Vinita, Oklahoma, Karl lived a life marked by dedication to his family, career, and passions.

Karl’s academic achievements were remarkable. He earned two engineering degrees—one in nuclear engineering and the other in mechanical engineering—from both Berkeley and Santa Clara Universities. His education laid the foundation for an impressive career that began at NASA as an engineer. Later, Karl transitioned into mainframe computer sales, where he excelled as a top salesman for several years. His success in sales allowed him and his wife to travel extensively for business. Toward the end of his career, Karl moved into sales management before retiring.

Karl proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1960 to 1966 at Fort Sill in Oklahoma. Though he did not see combat during his six years of service, he remained deeply proud of his military contributions.

A man of faith, Karl was raised as a Christian in the Baptist church. His kind-hearted nature and devotion to family were evident throughout his life. He shared a loving marriage with Linda Hagebusch for 36 years. Together they built a blended family that brought him great joy. He is survived by his wife Linda; sons Marc Hagebusch (Jennifer) and Matthew Hagebusch (Marife); granddaughter Carley Hagebusch; stepdaughters Kari Ferguson and Kelly Ferguson; stepson Cory Ferguson; and sister-in-law Deborah Hagebusch. He was predeceased by his mother Norma Nelson and brother Larry Hagebusch.

Karl had a deep love for dogs, particularly beagles—he owned seven over the course of his life—and had a soft spot for animals in general. He enjoyed spending time outdoors fishing and hunting and found joy in quieter moments reading or solving crossword puzzles. Card games were another favorite pastime; he especially loved playing Skip-Bo, 99, or poker with friends and family. In addition to these hobbies, Karl was an avid fan of westerns.

Karl’s legacy is one of warmth, resilience, and love for those around him. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date to honor Karl’s life and celebrate the many ways he touched the lives of others.
