Karol Louise Freudenberg (Bush), 1937 - 2024, of Canoga Park, CA, devoted wife to Edward C. Freudenberg and beloved mother to Alison Freudenberg Licata, Erica Freudenberg Metz, Steven Freudenberg and Paul Freudenberg and loving grandmother to Sarah and Andy Metz, Jennasea, Monay, Mataya and Mason Licata and Kyle Freudenberg, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of April 15, 2024, due to natural causes and complications related to lung cancer, surrounded by her surviving children. She was 87 years old.
Karol Freudenberg was a gentle, kind-hearted, artistic and caring individual who most enjoyed helping and teaching others in topics which were her passion.
Before having children, she was an elementary school teacher at Cherimoya Avenue Elementary School.
Later, she returned to work part-time at Ernest Lawrence Junior High School specializing in the remedial learning classroom.
Following that, she was a full-time vision therapist at the Getz and Etting practice. Her post retirement activities included being a volunteer docent at Huntington Gardens in Pasadena where she specialized in the Herb Garden.
She made great friends and arrangements while enjoyed her activities at the Garden and Flower arranging clubs. One club member said, "she could take a weed from the yard and turn it into living art".
In all of her activities, she touched the lives of many individuals positively with her special formula of love, nature and learning.
She attended Immaculate Heart High School and graduated from the same College at the age of 20.
Her life's work was helping others. Such examples include her decades long service in vision therapy primarily helping children, teens and adults work with vision coordination and training issues.
Karol was also a humble multi-instrumentalist with the ability to sing, play piano, guitar, autoharp, violin, ukulele and more.
She had many amazing and memorable ravel adventures including an epic and noteworthy post college European trip, an Alaska cruise and tours of UK, China and France.
Precious family trips included Sequoia, Yosemite, and Grand Canyon National Parks.She was happiest while working in the garden following her relentless passion for herbs and flowers and visiting with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her son Steven (2017) and her husband Ed (2018).
A Memorial Service was held at the Porter Valley Country Club on August 17, 2024.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in her memory to the Huntington Library in .
A memorial plaque can be found at the Oakwood Cemetery in Chatsworth CA at the Sequoia Rose Garden alongside her husband, Ed Freudenberg.
