Katherine Mary Rinn McNellis Schultz, Kate, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away November 9, 2025. Born on June 25, 1934 in Chicago, Illinois, the oldest child of Catherine and William Rinn, Kate's life was defined by love, faith, service, and an unwavering commitment to family and friends. She was known for her infectious smile, and boundless energy.
She grew up in Chicago attending St. Rita Grammar School and Our Lady of Loretto before the family moved to Crystal Lake .She attended Crystal Lake High School and then Northern Illinois University . She was working for the Chicago Daily News when she was chosen from among thousands of candidates to be a stewardess forAmerican Airlines in 1956. She loved her years with American, traveling extensively throughout theUnited States and overseas. When her children were in grade school, she became a travel agent forAmerican Express until her retirement. As a travel agent, she continued travelling the world and in 1983 was awarded International Performer of the Year for American Express for conscientious selfless service and heroism. Her love of travel was passed to her children and grandchildren with many family trips and worldwide adventures.
Through family, she met Edward McNellis and they were married on September 6, 1958 until his death 21 years later. Kate was a supportive wife and mother and although she was involved in many organizations she never missed a moment of her children's lives volunteering in schools, driving countless miles for practices, rehearsals, and attending performances and games. She was introduced to Ralph Schulz in 1982 and they were married 39 years until his passing.
Throughout her life, her Catholic faith was the cornerstone of her life and she was an active member and leader at St. Raymond Catholic Church and all the churches she belonged. A lifetime White Sox fan ,she also opened her loving heart and home to many animals. She leaves a legacy of love of God,devotion to church, a volunteer's heart, and love of travel, baseball and furry friends.
Kate is preceded in death by husband Ed, husband Ralph, and parents Catherine and William Rinn. She is survived by her daughters Mary McNellis-Hancock and husband Nelson, and Therese McNellis Mooreand husband Joe, cherished grandchildren Joe and Katherine Moore, and brothers William Rinn, Jr.andwife Onie and Rev. Richard Rinn, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all who offered love and support during this sadtime. Kate's greatest joy was her family. We rejoice knowing she is reunited with her loved ones inheaven.
