Kathleen Marie "Kathy" Kenney (Bruno), age 79, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2025, in Annapolis, Maryland. Born on December 17, 1946, in Washington, D.C., she lived a life marked by deep faith, unwavering love for her family, and a heart devoted to serving others.
Her nurturing spirit began early on with her siblings, particularly her little brother. This gentle nature led her to a fulfilling career working with children—as a kindergarten aide, preschool teacher, and later as a beloved nanny to several families. Her dedication to the well-being and growth of young lives left an enduring impact on many.
Kathy was a graduate of Elizabeth Seton High School in Bladensburg, Maryland. In 1966 she married her high school sweetheart and for the next 59 years Kathy shared her life with her devoted husband, Kenneth Wilson Kenney. Together they built a strong and loving family that was always at the center of Kathy's world. She is lovingly remembered by her daughters Michele Marie (Kenneth) Corkell and Dana Lynn (Christopher) Lowe; grandchildren Michael Moore, Joshua (Jennifer) Moore, Rebecca Lowe, Christopher Lowe Jr, and AnnaJoy Lowe; and eight great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy.
Kathy also cherished her siblings: Anthony Joseph (Marylou) Bruno, Gloria Grace Bruno (Heather), and Joseph Edward (Claire) Bruno Jr. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Edward Sr. and Pauline Leonora Bruno; and by her granddaughter, Christina Marie (Michael) Godfrey, whose memory remained close to Kathy's heart.
A woman of deep Christian faith, Kathy's relationship with her Lord Jesus Christ was the foundation of her life. She often spoke with joyful anticipation about spending eternity in Heaven and longed for others to know the love of Christ as she had. Her favorite life verse was Proverbs 3:5-6: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths."
Throughout her life, Kathy served faithfully in various church ministries—teaching children's classes, volunteering at events, supporting the homeless community, and participating in Bible studies. She also volunteered at Birthright of Annapolis, a non-profit offering compassion and support to women during vulnerable times.
Kathy found joy in simple pleasures—reading her Bible, taking leisurely walks, sitting quietly on her outdoor patio surrounded by nature and singing birds. She embraced holistic living and treasured time spent with friends. But above all else, she delighted in being present for every moment of her children's, grandchildren's, and great-grandchildren's lives—celebrating milestones big or small with genuine enthusiasm.
Those who knew Kathy will remember her as nurturing and generous—a woman who gave freely of her time and resources without hesitation. Her compassion touched countless lives; she loved deeply and lived intentionally.
While there is comfort in knowing that Kathy is now rejoicing in eternal life with her Savior—a hope she held dear—her absence leaves a profound void for those who loved her deeply.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 11:00 AM in the Chapel at Bay Area Community Church, 884 Chesterfield Road, Annapolis, MD 21401.
