Kathy (Wilson) Schlachtenhaufen, a loving wife, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend went to be with our Lord and Savior on Jan. 15, 2026.

On July 7, 1952, the daughter of Glenn and LaVerne Wilson was born in Oklahoma at Edmond Hospital, located above a downtown theater. Her father served in the U.S. Army, Navy and Air Force, mostly in the Strategic Air Command. He worked at bases in Oklahoma, Washington state, California, Maine, Texas, Thailand and Greenland. Locally, Kathy spent part of her childhood in Hobart, OK, and her teen years in Fort Worth, TX.

Kathy spent much of her adult life in Edmond, where she proudly graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO). She met her husband Mark Schlachtenhaufen when they were journalism students at UCO. On Dec. 26, 1993, they were married in the campus chapel.

Kathy's career as a healthcare provider benefited many Oklahomans in retirement communities in Edmond and Oklahoma City. She also worked in home health and hospice. Her final job was in activities at The Fountains at Canterbury.

Kathy was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Edmond, where she served in multiple choirs with Mark for about 20 years. She was also active in Sunday school (Pathfinders) and served as a lay caregiver (Stephen Minister).

In around 2016, Kathy began experiencing symptoms of hydrocephalus (gait issues, incontinence and dementia). Adam Krouse, her doctor at Mercy, diagnosed the condition and her OU Health neurosurgeon, Hakeem Shakir, implanted a shunt. It gave her nearly 2 symptom-free years. For their contributions, Mark is grateful.

Mark also wishes to thank the other staff members at Mercy and OU Health, Accel at Crystal Park, Amedisys Home Health Care and Suncrest Hospice who provided loving care for Kathy during her final months. Thanks to financial support from his parents, Ed and Carol Schlachtenhaufen, Kathy was able to be surrounded by love at home during her final years. Cousin Bobbie Holliday was a pillar of support during her final months.

Following Kathy's wishes, her remains were donated to the OU Health Willed Body Program. This is a unique and priceless gift which provides the source for knowledge that is the foundation of medical education. It is essential for advancing the understanding and treatment of dementias.

Kathy is survived by her husband, Mark Schlachtenhaufen, of Oklahoma City, OK, her brothers Jerry Wilson, of Boydville, OK, and David Wilson, of Erick, OK, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded by her parents, Glenn and LaVerne Wilson; and her brother, Robert Wilson, and his wife, Sharon; Jerry's wife Paula; and David's wife Lisa.

Memorial service information will be announced at a later date.
