Kay Frances Ballard Tucker, affectionately known as "Red" by her family and friends, passed away peacefully at home on November 23, 2025, at the age of 89. A longtime resident of Charlotte, North Carolina, Kay was born on November 30, 1935, in Kannapolis, North Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Tucker, mother Sadie Ballard, father Lonnie Ballard, sisters Hazel Dickey, and Ruth Ballard, brother Guy Ballard, and her cherished grandson, William Franklin Tucker.
Kay is survived by her son, Jerry Wayne Tucker (Donna); grandchildren Kelsey Tucker, Jessica Hunter (Samuel), and Austin Tucker (Marissa); and her two adored great-grandsons, Macklen and Asher, who brought her boundless joy. Kay was an exceptional mother figure to her numerous nieces and nephews, including Eddie Wayne Ballard and Donna Ballard Melton.
For 25 years, until she was 80, Kay drove a shuttle bus for National Rental Car at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, where she became a familiar and amiable presence to countless travelers. Her warm demeanor and down-to-earth nature left an indelible impression on everyone she encountered.
In her leisure time, Kay derived immense pleasure from her crafts—crocheting, knitting, and cross-stitching exquisite pieces that will be cherished by her family for generations to come. She will be remembered for her fortitude, humor, and the unwavering love she freely bestowed upon those around her.
A life so well-lived and a heart so profoundly loved—Kay's memory will forever reside in the hearts of her family and friends.
