Kenneth Edison Miller "Captain Ken", age 88, of Sebastian, FL peacefully ascended to Heaven on January 9, 2026.

Ken Miller was born in Camden, NJ on June 10, 1937. He lived there with his parents and two other siblings until he graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1955. He relocated to Bridgeton, New Jersey and obtained employment at the Kerr Glass Factory. Shortly thereafter he met the love of his life Mary Leonard. Ken and Mary were married on December 21, 1956. They lived in Camden, NJ for three years and welcomed three children - Jayne, Marci, and Ken Jr. In addition to working and helping with the three children, Ken also attended Rutgers University Business College in the evenings. Ken and Mary lived for a short time in Vineland, NJ while he worked for RCA, then purchased their first home in Willingboro, NJ.
Ken and Mary lived in Willingboro and raised their children there from 1963 until 1972 while he traveled throughout the country working as a Management Consultant for Alexander Proudfoot Company. The family relocated to Ulmstead Estates in Arnold, MD, near Annapolis. While residing in Maryland, Ken worked for Hecht Company department stores in both Baltimore and Washington, DC running their Distribution Center, and Mary worked at the Annapolis Call Center. In 1978, Ken and Mary moved back to New Jersey, living in Somerset and then Point Pleasant for the next 20 years.
While residing in New Jersey, Ken worked as an Operations VP for AR Marking Services in NYC and then Steinbach Department stores as the VP of their Distribution Center in Eatontown, NJ, while Mary worked as a customer service representative for Mary Kay Cosmetics offices in Piscataway NJ.

As a lifelong fishing and boating enthusiast Ken purchased his first boat in 1965. By 1978 Ken Miller had amassed sufficient sea time (and documented that experience) to allow him to test for and then obtain authorization for a US Coast Guard issued 100 Ton Unlimited Charter License. At this point he became known as "Captain Ken" to many of his friends, relatives, and customers. Captain Ken provided both inshore and deep water canyon based offshore six passenger fishing charter trips on his own vessels as his primary avocation. He became an advocate for more sustainable fishing techniques and worked with the central NJ Captains Associations to help successfully limit inshore commercial pelagic pair trolling which was decimating the coastal fisheries in the early 1980s. He was always eager to share his many tall tale fish stories with all who would listen over a five o'clock martini.

Ken and Mary started to spend more time in Florida and retired from work in 1996 at age 59. After several years of snow-birding between NJ and FL they eventually made Florida their permanent and final residence. While residing in Sebastian, Ken continued to enjoy many more boating and fishing adventures on his own vessels with his friends and family. His USCG Captain's License also afforded him the opportunity to either Captain or Co-Captain large vessels up and down the east coast for hire to support fishing tournaments. When he would often say in his later years: "I've fished from Maine to the Great Abaco Islands" it truly was a valid statement! For their first twenty two years of retirement, Mary and Ken enjoyed many summer time RV trips and enjoyed visiting every contiguous state in the United States, as well as brief visits into both Mexico and Canada in their annual "Magic Bus" adventures. When at home in Sebastian, they were also active members of the Barefoot Bay Boat Club, RV Club, and Hungry Rollers Bowling Club. Both Ken and Mary's greatest joy in their retired years was getting together and celebrating life achievements with their ever growing family of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
