Kenneth LaVaughn "Piggy" Dandridge, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and proud veteran, passed away after a long illness on January 3, 2026, in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania. He was 80 years old.
Born on October 21, 1945, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Kenneth was the son of Kenneth H. Dandridge and Joanne L. Dandridge. He grew up in the Northside and Homewood neighborhoods and graduated from Westinghouse High School in January 1964. During his high school years, he was recognized by the Homewood Community Improvement Association for his athletic achievements—an early testament to his lifelong dedication to physical fitness and sports. His exceptional talent as a pitcher even earned him a tryout with the Philadelphia Phillies.
Kenneth proudly served his country in the United States Army from October 14, 1965, to October 13, 1967. As a member of the 716th Military Police Battalion during the Vietnam War, he demonstrated courage and commitment that would remain hallmarks of his character throughout his life. He was a disabled veteran who carried both the honor and sacrifice of service with quiet dignity.
Following his military service, Kenneth built a strong work ethic through various roles at U.S. Steel Homestead Works, UPS, Frito Lay, and Braun's Bakery before finding long-term employment with Duquesne Light Company. There he worked across several divisions—including the Nuclear Power Plant, Transmission & Distribution (T&D), and Underground—until retirement.
Kenneth's faith was an enduring part of his life. His Christian education began at the Neighborhood Sunday School and Brown Chapel AME Church. He also attended Allegheny Center Alliance Church for many years. During COVID-19, he would join in daily to the Mt Ararat Baptist Church prayer call and online services at Mt. Ararat and the Potters House Ministry in Dallas, Texas. His commitment to worshipping the Lord through word, prayer, and music continued to be a daily practice through the remainder of his life. Listening to the musical selection "Jesus and My Coffee" offered spiritual fuel and nourishment for his dialysis journey. A faith-filled believer throughout his life, he found strength and guidance through his spiritual foundation.
On July 7, 1983, Kenneth married Laurene S. Dandridge (née Scott) in Las Vegas, Nevada—a union that brought joy and companionship for over four decades. Together they welcomed their daughter Ashley Lauren Dandridge into their lives.
Kenneth also cherished the memory of his son Lamont "Corky" Dandridge from a previous marriage to Vicki Lee. Though Corky preceded him in death, Kenneth held him close in heart always.
Kenneth had a unique sense of humor and zest for life that endeared him to many. A devoted soap opera watcher with an eye for drama both on-screen and off, he also had a fascination with "Big Foot" (Sasquatch). He frequently watched YouTube videos of "Big Foot Encounters."
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth H. Dandridge and Joanne L. Dandridge; his son, Lamont "Corky" Dandridge; his brother, James H. Dandridge; and his beloved Yorkie, "Juicy".
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Laurene Dandridge; daughter, Dr. Ashley Dandridge; granddaughter, Shakia Dandridge; great grandsons, Kameron Dandridge and MaxDillon Dandridge; sister, Roxanne L. Robinson; sisters-in-law, Diane Dandridge and Kimberly Bradshaw; two dear aunts, Elnedia Barrow and Olive Cobbs; his faith filled, Jesus is Real, prayer warrior, cousin, Bernice Malloy and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted neighbors and friends.
May Kenneth be remembered for his strength of spirit, devotion to family, unwavering faith, and enduring legacy as a veteran and community member. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
