Kenneth Dahnke (Ken) Glover passed away on January 19, 2026 following a short illness. He was a resident of Buncombe County for the majority of his life, for many years a familiar presence at the golf course or grabbing a chair anywhere he heard someone shuffling cards.
Ken was born on May 22, 1932 in Union City, Tennessee to Noel and Ruth (Dahnke) Glover. He spent most of his school years in Knoxville. His father's career brought a family move to Madison, Wisconsin for Ken's last year of high school. It was in his homeroom class that he got acquainted with a classmate two seats away. He and Alicemay (Gerretson) quickly became a couple and married three years later. Within months of their wedding and expecting their first child in 1953, his own career with the Oscar Meyer Company brought him and Alicemay to Asheville for a six-month assignment as the company's first sales manager in the region. They ended up staying 12 years, having all four of their children in WNC. Work with other companies took the family to several other cities before settling back in Asheville in 1974. He and Alicemay never left again.
Ken was known to many in Asheville's business community through his role as Director of Sales at WLOS-TV and at WHNS-TV, and later as a successful realtor with Beverly-Hanks. An avid golfer in those years, he served terms as president of the Asheville Country Club. A childhood case of polio returned as post-polio complications, eventually forcing him to put down his golf clubs. Instead, he channeled his competitive instincts into a variety of card and board games. His family can attest to his desire to win, through skill, daring-do, bluster or a combination of the three, but he most enjoyed the fun and fellowship these games provided him right up until the end of his life.
In addition to his wife of 73 years, Alicemay, Ken is survived by his four children, of whom he was immensely proud: Ellen Stinnett (David) of Knoxville, Tennessee; Ken (Pam) of White Pine, Tennessee; Tom (Liza) of Tarrytown, New York, and; Amy Duckett (Mitchell) of Asheville. He has seven grandchildren (one of whom, Kerry Alice Brown, predeceased him), and two great-grandchildren, with another on the way.
There are no immediate plans for a funeral/memorial service. Enjoy a round of golf, a game of gin rummy, or any good college or NFL football match, knowing that Ken would appreciate it.
