Kevin Bradley Bates, 59, passed away on December 14, 2025, in Chesapeake, Virginia. Born on February 7, 1966, in Denver, Colorado, Kevin lived a life marked by dedication, kindness, and an unwavering love for his family.
For over 38 years, Kevin served as a Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service. His commitment to his work and community was evident throughout his long career. He retired in January of 2025, leaving behind a legacy of reliability and service that touched countless lives.
Kevin’s world revolved around his family. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Fontella Bates; daughter Brittany Weaver and her husband Justin along with their children Landon, Noah, and Logan; son Matthew Bates; and son Adam Bates and his wife Jessica with their children Bradley, Hayden, and Addison. He also leaves behind his mother Judith Bates; brothers Scott Bates (Linda), James (Rebecca), and Cliff; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Richard Bates and brother Brian Bates.
Kevin was known for his kind heart and helpful nature. He had a calming presence that brought comfort to those around him. Always ready to lend a hand or offer support, he had an innate ability to find the positive in any situation. His role as a husband, father, father-in-law, and grandfather was one he cherished deeply—he was truly the cornerstone of his family.
A man of many interests, Kevin had a passion for his Harley-Davidson and cars. He enjoyed collecting Hot Wheels and could rarely be found sitting still—he always had something to do or somewhere to go. In recent years, he discovered a love for travel that took him on memorable adventures to places like the Parthenon in Greece and the Eiffel Tower in France.
Kevin’s life was one of quiet strength and enduring love. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. May his legacy bring comfort to those who mourn his passing. A Memorial Service will be held on January 31, 2026, at 10:30 AM at New Hills Church 5061 E 160th Ave. Family requests that you please feel free to wear jeans with your Denver Broncos or Harley shirt.
