Kevin James Wente

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Kevin James Wente, beloved son, brother, husband and father, who passed away peacefully on April 11, 2026, at his Lexington home. He was 56 years old.
He was born at Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia to Jim and Patti Wente on February 17, 1970. He graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in Geology. He was employed at the Kentucky Geological Survey before joining Lexington Fayette Urban County Government, where he devoted himself to the service of the local community for over two decades.
Before taking early retirement in 2023 due to serious illness, Kevin enjoyed traveling and cooking with his wife, Kelley, riding his motorcycles and spending time with his five sons along with family and close friends. His sons knew him as a caring father who loved to spend time fishing with them & who was seldom seen without a big smile and a readymade joke. Kevin had a lifelong love of music and enjoyed taking them to concerts. His large extended family and close friends knew him as a genuinely giving spirit who always placed the needs of others above his own. More than anything else in life, Kevin loved to laugh.
Kevin is survived by his wife, Kelley; his mother, Patti; his brother,Todd, & his wife, Linda; sons Alex, Nathan, Ben, Carson & Brady; stepsons Brooks Fitzpatrick & his wife, Kelsey, & their son William; & Logan Fitzpatrick & his wife Sabrina. Kevin was preceded in death by his father, Jim, and his granddaughter, Luna Fitzpatrick.
There will be a celebration of Kevin's life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family has set up the Kevin Wente Memorial Education fund to help support the continuing education of Kevin's sons.
