With love and deep sadness, the family of Kim Swarthout of Midland, Michigan, announces his passing on December 30, 2025.

Kim was born on June 29, 1952 in Midland, Michigan, one of twelve children born to the late Carl and Ellen (Earle) Swarthout. He graduated from Bullock Creek High School and was a butcher by trade.

Known by many as KD or Smokey, Kim was truly one of a kind—a firecracker full of life, with no regrets. He loved his tribe fiercely and always made sure they knew it. His three beloved pups, Haus, Karma, and Clyde meant the world to him, and he never missed a chance to talk about them.

He was passionate about boxing and loved to share with everyone that his sister, Biane, once took him to a fight with ringside seats. Kim enjoyed reading history and true crime, watching Ancient Aliens and a good western. He enjoyed his sweets - especially apple pies and turnovers and was known for making the best homemade noodles.

He loved Harley-Davidsons, was an avid hunter, coin collector, and took great pride in gardening and working in his yard.

He was incredibly knowledgeable.
No matter what you asked, Kim always had an answer—often better than Google..

Kim stayed closely connected with family and friends—and if you answered his call, you knew you were settling in for hours. He was a master storyteller, captivating listeners with tales from his youth and a life well lived. His stories, filled with humor and wisdom, will be cherished and retold for years by those who loved him,

Kim is survived by his children: Sherry (Mike) Wendt, Kimmy (Bruce) Alexander, April (Bill) Cobb, Eazy (Judy) Swarthout, Cheyenne Swarthout, Tru Swarthout, and Embree Smith; along with 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

His sisters: Kaleen (William) Morris, Carla Burt, Toni Swarthout, and Spring Stocks; his brother, Marc (Cindy) Swarthout; many nieces and nephews; and many, many great friends.

He was preceded in death by his sisters Biane McGee and Rae Ann Carbilido; brothers Gary Swarthout, Andrew Cross, Dave Swarthout, and Ben Swarthout; brother-in-law Bob Burt; and niece Ellen McGee.

A celebration of life will be planned and held at a later date. PEACE OUT!
