Lance Carson Bryant, 77, of Alameda, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 9, 2026. Lance was born August 15, 1948 in Alameda to Dorothy and Carl (Jim) Bryant. Lance was an outgoing and fun loving child who enjoyed pranks and jokes. He graduated from Alameda High School in 1966 and shortly after was drafted into the Vietnam War. After three years of dedicated service, he returned to Alameda. His time in the military taught him the importance of a team and teamwork.

In 1971 he met Sally Flocchini, a true love story and how opposites compliment each other to make the perfect team. They married on July 7, 1979 at St Joseph Basilica. Together they raised two wonderful children, Daniel and Lisa, and continued to build a life with laughter, love, family and friends for over 46 years. Lance adored Sally and shared that with everyone he knew. Sally knew all the keys to taking care of Lance and keeping him in line when he would go into “joke-mode”.

Lance dedicated his life to the city of Alameda, working to make its infrastructure strong and beautiful for over 30 years. Lance coached his team to help everyone meet their potential and grow professionally and personally. In 2003, he retired as the Public Works Superintendent for the City of Alameda.

After retirement, Lance was able to build his dream home with his family in Truckee so they could enjoy the outdoors year round as a family. You could often find Lance tinkering in his garage offering advice to anyone who asked (and some who didn’t) about home improvements, cars or any other items that needed repairs.

Lance loved his children, Daniel and Lisa. Lance was so proud of them and always encouraged them to be leaders themselves, but always with a huge smile and a million jokes. Lance loved inspiring children so he continued to coach both Daniel and Lisa’s teams over the years, being a second father to many. Lance was also a very vocal off-field coach for the 49ers and has inspired his family to continue the tradition of being fans who continue to hope for Super Bowl rings.

Lance adored his grandsons, Alex and Drew. You could often find “Papa” showing the boys how to use tools, encouraging them to be creative building planes, boats or anything else with his endless supply of garage treasures. As their #1 fan, he loved watching all games and cheering for them throughout their baseball careers. He enjoyed spending time with the family playing boardgames, poker or anything where he could be competitive and act like a kid himself while making everyone cry from laughter.

Lance is survived by wife, Sally, and his children, Daniel and Lisa, his daughter in law, Lisa Light Bryant, his grandsons, Alex and Drew, and his extended family of in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. Lance will be remembered for his big personality, great sense of humor and his generous nature.

Lance’s celebration of life will begin at 11:30 am on March 15, 2026 at Harbor Bay Isle Community Center located at 3195 Mecartney Road in Alameda. In lieu of gifts, please donate to some of Lance’s favorite charities: Alameda Boys and Girls Club, Disabled American Veterans, and Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter (FAAS).
