Larry Jay Burgess Sr., 86, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2026, in Mesa, Arizona. Born on June 24, 1939, in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Larry graduated from Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Michigan, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. His education laid the foundation for a remarkable career with General Motors. After accepting a position with GM upon graduation, Larry's work took him across several states before he settled at the GM Proving Grounds in Milford, Michigan, in 1973. As an engineer specializing in emissions calibration, Larry was known for his indispensable contributions to numerous projects. His talent for problem-solving and his creative mind made him an invaluable member of the team until his retirement at the age of 58.

Larry was a man of many talents and interests. In his younger years, he enjoyed working on wooden boats and had a passion for Corvettes and Fieros. He and his beloved wife Carolyn were always busy with projects together whether it was creating a Koi pond, building shelves, or remodeling rooms in their home. Following his retirement, Larry and Carolyn spent over 25 winters in Gold Canyon, Arizona.

Larry's intelligence and creativity extended far beyond engineering. He had an innate ability to fix or repair almost anything and enjoyed helping others with his abilities. He was always ready to listen when someone needed an ear, and he loved a good meal.

Larry cherished moments playing cards with family and friends or simply enjoying their company while working on projects or relaxing outdoors.

Larry is survived by his children: Paula Byrne (John), Larry Burgess Jr., Kimberly Ronald (Scott), and Tamora Burgess; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his brother Rodger Burgess (Donna); as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by Carolyn, his devoted wife of 55 years who passed away in 2020; his parents Norman and Anita Burgess; and his brother Lyle Burgess.

Larry's legacy is one of kindness, ingenuity, and unwavering dedication to those around him. His memory will live on through the countless lives he touched with his generosity and wisdom.

May those who knew him find comfort in remembering the remarkable life he led. A Memorial Gathering will be held on May 2, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Crossroads Church of God 3940 Pinckney Road, Pinckney, MI 48843.
