On Friday, January 30, 2026, Lawrence “Larry” A. Baker, age 87, a longtime resident of South Hampton, NH and more recently of Elkton, FL, passed away peacefully following a brief illness.
Born on May 14, 1938, in Ludlow, VT, Larry was the son of the late Gordon and Celia Baker and spent his early years in Ludlow. He later built a life in South Hampton, NH, where he lived for over 50 years and became an active and respected member of the community.
Larry dedicated his entire professional career to General Electric and he served for many years on the South Hampton School Board and Select Board. He was deeply involved in Boy Scouts leadership, generously giving his time, skills and guidance to local youth.
Following his retirement, he traveled extensively in his RV. He visited all but four U.S. states, all ten Canadian provinces, the Yukon Territory, and ten Mexican states. Larry also organized and participated in Trek RV rallies.
Larry is survived by his current wife, Christine Baker, whom he married later in life. Larry is also survived by his three children: Dan Baker and his wife Beth of Hudson, NH; Kim Cremin and her husband Dennis of South Hampton, NH; and Jon Baker and his wife Trudi of Topsfield, MA. He was the playful grandfather to five grandchildren: Connor and Aidan Cremin; Calleigh and Braeden Baker; and Abigail Baker. He is also survived by his sisters, Kay Ford and Diana Madrid.
Larry was predeceased by his first wife of 53 years, Carol Baker (d. 2019) and by his brothers, Gordon and Rogers Baker
In his later years, Larry split time between homes in FL and NH. He cherished an active outdoor lifestyle, including kayaking on the Powwow River, boating along the inter-coastal in FL, and exploring the scenic trails of Palm Coast. At home, he loved to work in the yard and tinker with hands-on projects - often climbing up on the roof, much to the angst of his loved ones.
Larry remained impressively active well into his 80s, taking part in physically demanding adventures such as ropes courses, waterfall rappelling, and hiking the Beehive in Acadia - a testament to his determination and love of life.
Larry will be remembered as the winner of arguments, an expert in bartering and one of the most frugal but generous people on Earth. He will also be remembered for his young-at-heart and adventurous spirit, and staying active and engaged at every stage of life.
A celebration of Larry’s life will be held on Sunday, February 15, from 1 - 4 p.m. at 5045 Coquina Crossing Dr, Elkton, FL and another one will be held in NH on May 9 (details TBD). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association: https://www.lbda.org/donate.
