Lawrence M. Brown

1947 - 2005

Lawrence Michael Brown, 78, of Oakland Park, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, December 20, 2025. Born on October 30, 1947, in Toledo, he was the beloved son of Arthur Eugene and Gladys Mae Brown.

Lawrence graduated from Rossford High School in 1965. Even as a young man, he embodied quiet leadership and steady character. He served as Senior Class Vice President and Chaplain, was a member of Projection Squad and Hi-Y, and competed on the Varsity Football and Track teams, as well as in intramural sports. Those who knew him then already recognized the humility, discipline, and integrity that would define his life.

He continued his education at Central State College, earning an Associate’s Degree in Engineering Technology, and later graduated from the University of Toledo with a degree in Education, also studying Economics and Law. For Lawrence, education was not simply preparation for a career—it was preparation for service.

His professional life reflected that calling. He began as a teacher at Maumee Valley Country Day School, investing in young minds with patience and care. He later served as Executive Director of Help Opportunities for People Equally (HOPE), a nonprofit dedicated to providing real estate counseling and financial assistance to elderly and low- to moderate-income families—work that reflected his belief that dignity and opportunity should be accessible to all. He also gave his time as a Big Brother through Community Chest in Toledo, understanding that meaningful change begins with relationships.

An opportunity with IBM led Lawrence to continue growing as a leader, serving in executive roles within the Design and Real Estate Regional Offices in Dobbs Ferry and White Plains, New York. His colleagues consistently recognized his strong work ethic and steady leadership. He later brought that same commitment and integrity to Howell Industries, Johnson Controls, and Aramark’s Education Division. Yet to those who loved him, his titles and accolades were secondary to the man he was—thoughtful, dependable, and deeply kind.

Lawrence’s greatest impact was not measured in professional milestones but in the lives he touched. He served faithfully as a leader in his local Lions Clubs International chapter and as an elder in his church. He was also an avid golfer who found joy and fellowship on the course. In every setting, he modeled humility, generosity, and a steadfast faith in God. He had a gift for listening, for offering wisdom without pretense, and for helping others see the good in themselves and in the world around them.

In 1968, Lawrence married Betty Mae Harris, and together they welcomed one daughter, Shelley Lynn Brown. In 1978, he married Pamela Jo Nolte, and they shared 47 years of devoted partnership. Over the years, they built a life that carried them from the Midwest and New England to the Sunshine State, residing in Ohio, Illinois, Connecticut, Michigan, and South Florida. Wherever he lived, Lawrence built community.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Arthur Eugene and Rev. Gladys Mae Brown; his brothers Mark Elliot Brown, Cornelius Brown, Eugene Clifford Brown, Timothy Brown, and Stanley James Brown; his brother-in-law George Norman Campbell; and Harold and Betty Nolte, and Noah Dunlop.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife Pamela Brown, his devoted daughter, Shelley Brown, and his treasured grandchildren, Lily Torres and Joshua Torres. He is also lovingly remembered by his brothers Rodney (Doris) Brown, Sr., Richard (Gracie) Brown, and Gilbert (Carrie) Brown, Sr.; his sisters Phyllis Campbell, Christine (Orlando) Maddox, and Valerie (Michael) Murphy; along with Betty Harris Brown, Elizabeth Hamilton Brown, San Nolte, Jeff (Susan) Nolte, Bonnie (Rob) Parsons, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends across many states.

Lawrence Michael Brown lived a life of quiet strength and enduring faith. He did not seek recognition, yet he earned deep respect. He did not demand attention, yet he was profoundly loved. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he steadied, encouraged, and uplifted—and in the family who will carry forward his example of humility, service, and love.
