November 5, 1939 - January 26, 2026

Lawrence Victor Martin Lasky, known lovingly as Larry, of Bridgeport, Connecticut, passed away peacefully at home on January 26, 2026, at the age of 86.

Larry grew up on Old Dam Road in Fairfield, Connecticut, as well as in Bridgeport, alongside his siblings. He attended Holland Hill Elementary School and was one of the middle children in a family of 16—12 boys and 4 girls—raised in a large, close-knit family whose values shaped him throughout his life. Among all his siblings, Larry was especially cherished by his youngest brother Harold of New Mexico, who often said Larry was his favorite sibling. Harold is now Larry’s only surviving brother.

Larry briefly lived in California, where he developed a lifelong love for surfing and embraced a creative and adventurous chapter of his life. During that time, he worked at Disneyland, creating hand-drawn cartoon caricatures for park patrons. While in California, he also worked at the Brown Derby, where he cooked for many movie stars and other famous individuals.

A man of many talents and professions, Larry was an exceptional cook who worked in numerous restaurants and prepared meals for many notable people, including presidents. While living and working in Bridgeport, he proudly served many original performers and well-known figures from Barnum & Bailey, including Tony Bennett. He spent 18 years at Captain's Cove in Bridgeport and proudly served as the first head chef when it opened. He was also a business owner, operating Gold's Delicatessen on Main Street in Stratford, a well-known and respected local establishment.

Larry was always the first to volunteer to cook for picnics, parties, and family gatherings. He loved sharing his passion for food and frequently held cooking demonstrations for children, grandchildren, and preschools. A deeply involved and active father and grandfather, Larry proudly participated in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, generously giving his time, energy, and enthusiasm.

Beyond his professional life, Larry worked as a roofer, loved fishing, and had a deep passion for gardening. He especially loved clamming in Ash Creek with his close friends Glenn (worm), Big Al, and Chris Ockman, time he truly cherished. He was also a talented artist whose creativity touched many.

Larry had a true passion for dancing and famously danced with many well-known figures over the years, including Elizabeth Taylor. Larry’s signature dances, including the Bunny Hop and his unforgettable “Mouse,” were legendary, always bringing laughter and joy to all.

Larry loved baseball and often said that "Pop-Pop never misses." Even in his later years, when his vision and coordination were no longer what they once were, he still managed to hit the ball every time—something his family loved and admired.

Larry was married to his beloved wife, Kathryn (Sadler) Lasky, for 61 years, together building a life rooted in love, family, and devotion.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Lasky and Jenny Rose Horvath Lasky, and by his son, Ronald Lasky.

Larry is survived by his wife, Kathryn; his children, Leanne Amaral, Suzanne Lasky, and Gordon Lasky; his stepson, Michael Steeves; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Among them, the grandchild he held closest to his heart was Veronica, who always made Pop-Pop laugh.

To his grandchildren, Larry was lovingly known as “Pop-Pop,” “Weasel,” or his infamous “snake in the grass” nickname, a term of endearment that captured his playful, fun-loving nature.

Services will be held at Our Lady of Grace Church, Second Hill Lane, Stratford, Connecticut, on Thursday, February 5, at 10:15 a.m.

Larry dreamed of one last trip to Catalina Island, Redondo Beach, or Hawaii to go surfing. He always said, "You have to catch every third wave."

One of Larry’s most unforgettable quotes was:

“Never drink water… fish make love in it!”

Larry will be remembered for his warmth, humor, creativity, generosity, and unwavering devotion to his family—leaving behind a legacy of laughter, love, and a family who adored him. He will never be replaced nor forgotten.
