Lawrence M. Treptow, lovingly known as Larry, passed away on January 3, 2026, at the age of 70. He was surrounded by love, just as he was throughout his life.
Larry was born on September 22, 1955, in Waukegan, Illinois, and spent most of his life in McHenry and Hebron, places he was proud to call home.
He was a kind, compassionate, and deeply thoughtful man with an endless curiosity about how things worked. He had a lifelong fascination with space, telescopes, and the stars, and had a passion for gazing at the night sky and working with his hands. Larry was a gifted woodworker who took pride in building, fixing, and understanding things with care and precision.
Stubborn to a fault — and unapologetically so — Larry was also generous with his time and deeply patient with those he loved. He enjoyed helping with the gardens, lending a hand wherever it was needed, and later in life found simple pleasure in floating peacefully in the pool. He loved long, meaningful conversations and was an amazing father who showed his love through listening, teaching, and simply being there.
Music was a constant in Larry's life. He especially loved The Beatles, Pink Floyd, ELO, and many others, with music often playing during family moments and quiet evenings alike.
Larry and his wife, Jodie, would have celebrated 22 years of marriage this February. Over time, he grew to appreciate the sun, sand, and water, eventually discovering a love for snorkeling once he got the hang of it.
Larry and Jodie shared a deep love for miniature dachshunds, and their home was filled with happiness thanks to their beloved dogs: Guinness, Stella, Barlee, Hermie, Haylee, and Cassie.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jodie Treptow; his children, Vicki Treptow (Jeremy), Danny Treptow (Katie), Jesse Treptow (Lindsay), and Brian Treptow; his stepson, Kyle Larke; and his cherished grandchildren, Skylar, Kaleb, and Archie, who brought him immense joy. He is also survived by his siblings Bob (Lois), Durelle, Nancy (Bud), Therese (Paul), Jan, Barb (Tom), Katie, and Suzy (Mark). He is also survived by his first wife and mother of his children, Suzanne Treptow.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arlene Treptow and Robert Treptow, and his brother, Tommy Treptow.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 21. The gathering is planned to take place at the VFW in McHenry from 11:00am-3:00pm.
Larry will be remembered for his gentle heart, curious mind, steady presence, and the deep love he had for his family. His legacy lives on in the things he built, the gardens he tended, the music he loved, the dogs he adored, and the countless conversations that will never be forgotten.
"Though I know I'll never lose affection for people and things that went before."
— The Beatles
