Leah Lynn Burke (née Rhoden), age 62, of Monroe, Georgia, passed away peacefully December 28, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, light, and unwavering strength. Leah had called Monroe home for the past few years, where she continued to share her warmth and kindness with everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Leah was the most loving, caring, selfless soul and a bright light to all she encountered. She loved deeply and fully, with a heart that knew no limits. Her beautiful smile, fierce spirit, quirky humor, and quick wit were unforgettable. She had a rare gift for making people feel seen, valued, and loved, and her presence brought comfort and joy wherever she went.
Creativity flowed naturally through Leah. She had a passion for restoring and renovating homes and furniture and an incredible eye for design. With ease and intuition, she could decorate any space and make it look as though it had been done by a professional interior designer. Her homes reflected her spirit - warm, thoughtful, welcoming, and full of life.
Leah fought a long and courageous cancer battle with grace, faith, and determination. While cancer took her life, it could never take her indomitable spirit. Those who loved her find peace knowing she is no longer in pain and is now whole again, resting safely in the arms of her Lord and Savior.
Leah lived life to the fullest as long as she was able, cherishing every moment with her family and friends. Her love for them was unconditional and unwavering, and that love will continue to be felt every day by those she leaves behind.
She is survived by her three children, Ashlee (Stephen) McMillan, Lucas Gilleland, and Lillian Burke; her two beloved grandsons, Archer and Easton McMillan, who knew her lovingly as “Honey”; her sister, Marie (Jim) Vassil; and many other cherished family members and dear friends whose lives were forever touched by her love. Leah was preceded in death by her mother, Marilynn Schneider, who passed away in February of 2024.
Leah was truly one of a kind. The world is dimmer without her, but her light lives on through the lives she touched, the love she gave so freely, and the memories that will forever be held close. She was deeply loved, and she will be deeply missed.
A Funeral Mass celebrating Leah’s life will be held on January 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anna’s Catholic Church in Monroe, Georgia. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and to honor the beautiful life she lived.
Family burial in Winona, MN will be held at a later date.
