Leltus H. and Imogene W. Wilson

1927 - 2022

Many years before their passing, Leltus Herbert (LH) Wilson and Imogene America Wilkinson Wilson joined a university medical research program seeking cures for Alzheimer's and other dementias. Imogene passed January 18, 2010, and LH on August 17, 2022. They now rest together with the Lord but several years later their extended participation in the various medical research studies were completed. Their ashes were spread at Old Bethel Cemetery in Arley, Alabama, where their memorial stones are placed.

LH was born October 21, 1927, and Imogene on July 10, 1932, both in Winston County, Alabama. Married July 1, 1950, LH soon entered military service but was spared from Korean battlefields due to the death of two of his brothers in the European WWII theater. After the war, LH worked for Alabama Power Company in Birmingham, Alabama, while earning a business degree from Howard College, the predecessor to Samford University. LH and Imogene left Birmingham for Nashville, Tennessee, where LH felt called to serve at the Baptist Sunday School Board for more than 30 years in areas including Bible and hymnal production and advertising.

Imogene dedicated her administrative and language arts skills to serving Nashville's Haywood Hills Baptist Church as senior church secretary for more than 30 years. She directed countless weddings for its young couples and was an exceptional soprano soloist in the choir.

After their retirement, LH trained for and became an award-winning wildlife woodcarver. He and Imogene traveled extensively including to art competitions and festivals. They continued to farm their land in Nolensville, Tennessee, until moving back to Birmingham to be nearer grandchildren.

LH and Imogene are preceded by parents Walter Jackson and Hollie Rochelle Burrow Wilson and Morris Rampy and Eva Lena Daniel Wilkinson. They are survived by two children, Kathy Jean Wilson and Steven Mark Wilson (Cynthia), four grandchildren, Parker Justin Richardson (Celeste), Amanda Shay Kaeser (Brad), Walter Harris Wilson (Anna), and Charles Steven Wilson (Grace), and seven great grandchildren.
