Leon Harris Pearce

1940 - 2026

On February 16, 2026 we lost our much-loved husband, father, brother, and friend.

Leon was one of the kindest and most generous people you will ever know. His ability to treat all people equally and with respect is the truest reflection of his character.

He was born in Jacksonville Florida on October 3,1940 and was raised by his grandparents in Ballinger Texas. As the oldest child, his siblings, Marina Pearce (Charles Magnin), Fanny Pearce (Paul Relis) and John Pearce (Susan Cook Pearce) still consider him their hero. After attending Texas A&M he spent six years in the Navy. He made his home in San Diego California where he served on the Police Department for 26 years. He spent the next twenty years as a happy wanderer putting over 247,000 miles on his truck visiting our beautiful country. He spent the final years of his life in Uniontown Washington with his wife Cindy Martin.

His proudest accomplishments in life were his children Michelle Mills (Gary Mills) and Mark Pearce (Marcie Pearce). His grandchildren Heather Mills, Easton Pearce, Christian Pearce, Aaron Pearce, and Oliver Litchfield brought him great joy.

Leon was diagnosed with ALS in 2013 and fought it every step of the way. In the past six months when the hospice nurse would tell him he was in decline he'd take it as a challenge and bounce back up. With each hurdle his bounce got a little lower until he couldn't bounce anymore.

Everyone who knew him loved him. Those of us who knew him best loved him most. He will be dearly missed.

A memorial service is planned for Friday, June 12 at 1:30pm at Miramar National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the ALS Association.
